Men and women living with metastatic breast cancer

#mbcthrivers

Each year, 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with breast cancer. Six to ten percent of these diagnoses are metastatic, or stage IV, and approximately another 30% of breast cancer patients develop metastatic breast cancer (MBC). The term thriver is used in the MBC community to differentiate from a breast cancer survivor. Survivor can imply that cancer is cured and an individual is no longer living with the disease. Those with MBC live with their cancer but can be thriving.
